JOB DESCRIPTION:
Director of Children, Youth & Family Ministries
Reports to: Rector
Status: Full Time
Directly Supervises: Children’s Ministries (0-6th grade), Youth Ministry (7th-12th), and Ministry Volunteers.
Position Overview:
The Parish of Calvary-St. George’s in the City of New York is seeking an individual who will nurture our growing youth and family ministry with prayer, vision and skill. This person will coordinate ministry and incorporate the StoryMakers curriculum for children and youth (age 0-18) as well as host our annual Creative Arts Camp in conjunction with Melina Smith and StoryMakers. They will also work with the rector and parents to build a thriving youth group. The qualified person will generate new ideas and a vision for Youth and Family that will expand the department, making connections in the congregation and beyond to serve children and their families in a variety of roles. We are open to new ideas while building on our deep foundation as we reach out to families in order that they might grow in their faith.
Essential Functions:
Imagine, develop and communicate a programming plan and curriculum scope that aligns with Calvary-St. George’s vision and values.
Design, schedule, organize, and implement a Youth Group Ministry
Help parents and guardians inspire curiosity and spiritual interest in their children; equip parents and guardians with the resources they need to be the primary influence of faith formation for their children.
Foster congregational awareness and involvement with the youth and family ministry through coaching and experimenting with intergenerational programming opportunities and worship service involvement
Maintain a safe and welcoming environment; foster discipleship, encourage thinking and sharing, and be aware and responsive regarding emotional and mental health among children and teens
Provide targeted, effective and consistent communication and promotion of activities to kids, parents and congregation via email, e-news, church website, social media, etc.
Initiate, build and maintain authentic relationships with children, teens, parents and volunteers
Recruit, develop, and train a team of adult volunteers to serve
Other Responsibilities:
Manage youth and family budget and finances
Participate in weekly staff meetings
Network with youth ministry directors and leaders from outside the parish
Be a present and engaged participant in standing church programs and worship services, and other duties as assigned.
Monthly check in with the Rector
Demonstrate an understanding of discipleship as journey or process; has a deep understanding and appreciation of scripture and theology and is familiar with or willing to learn Anglican/Episcopal tradition.
