Set against the backdrop of Boston's 1974 school desegregation crisis, the novel follows Mary Pat Fennessy, a desperate mother searching for her missing teenage daughter in a tense, violent Southie community. As she hunts for answers, she takes on the local Irish mob, uncovering deep-rooted corruption and racism that threaten to destroy her life.
