What Are You Seeking? John 1:29-42

“What are you looking for?” These are the first words of Jesus in the Gospel of John. Jesus’ ministry in the Fourth Gospel does not begin with the silencing of a demon, as in Mark; nor with a sermon on a mountain face, as in Matthew; and not with a proclamation of the year of the Lord’s favor, as in Luke. In John, his first words appear in the form of a simple but profound question, “What are you seeking?” His question was not limited to the two disciples who went after him all those years ago. It is also addressed to you and me.
