On Sunday, February 4, we will be electing new vestry members at the Annual Meeting at St. George's Church immediately following the morning service. There will be ONE SERVICE ONLY at 11:00 am at St. George's Church (7 Rutherford Place).
Below you will find photos as well as bios from our 2018 Vestry candidates:
M. Scott Peeler
M. Scott Peeler and his family have been members of the congregation for the past six years. Scott currently serves on the vestry and finance committee, is a regular usher and lay reader at the 10:00am service, and his children, Alexandra and Matthew, are acolytes. Scott is a life-long Episcopalian and is extremely happy to be a part of the Calvary-St. George’s family. In his professional life, Scott is a partner at the law firm of Arent Fox LLP where he co-heads its complex litigation department, government enforcement and white-collar department, and global compliance and integrity monitorship practice.
Charlotte Barnard is a writer and editor who lives in Greenwich Village with her husband, the poet and adman Robert Sawyer. She was introduced to the parish of Calvary-St. George when she began attending the Thursday Healing Service. She and Robert joined the parish in 2013, and Robert was baptized and confirmed here. Charlotte serves with the Healing Prayer Ministry and on the Board of the New York Altar Guild.
In 2010 I subsequently visited Calvary St Georges Church and eventually became a member. Shortly after, I became an Usher and has held the position of Head Usher for approximately two (2) years.
In the year, 2012, I became a Leader of Prospect Park Devotion Group and have continued throughout the past two (2) years to officiate as such, with weekly meetings at my home on Ocean Avenue, Brooklyn.
Molly Jane Layton
Molly Jane has been attending Calvary-St. George's since fall of 2014. Most Sundays you can find her acolyting at the Calvary 11am service, and she also attends a devotion group and teaches at the Forum. She is the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme coordinator and teaches 12th grade history at Brooklyn Prospect Charter School.
James (“JR”) Randall
Raised in Chicago, JR Randall has been a New York resident for 13 years. By day, he leads advisory services for Neustar. JR has a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University and an MBA from MIT Sloan. JR has attended Calvary-St George’s regularly since July 2016, and is extremely grateful to be part of the family here. In his free time, JR enjoys medieval history, performances at Lincoln Center and time with friends.
After moving into the neighborhood in 1998, I started looking for a church within the community, by 2000 finding Calvary Church. Both the people and the liturgy made all the difference: an open, friendly, embracing group of worshipers, a congregation that reflects New York City. My Presbyterian childhood left me wanting an encompassing liturgy leading to communion at every service that I found at an Episcopal church. Going forward, as in the past, as a member of the Vestry and Chair of the Properties Committee, I would continue to contribute my real estate knowledge and expertise to support and enhance this Parish and its vital congregation.
My professional career in real estate started as an architect: design of houses & public buildings; urban design of reclaimed gold mining lands in Johannesburg, South Africa; faculty member of the Schools of Architecture at the University of Cape Town, and University of Kentucky. My career in real estate finance in New York City includes: construction lender at Chase Manhattan Bank; representation of foreign equity in US real estate developments with a French investment bank; real estate transaction oriented consulting with Jones Lang Wootton, with a major focus on credit tenant representation; placement of senior debt, and securitization of commercial real estate loans, with Lehman Brothers.
Education: University of Pennsylvania: Bachelor of Arts, Master of Architecture and MBA (Wharton) degrees.
Jonathan has been attending Calvary-St. George's for four year, during which time he has participated in the healing prayer ministry and the finance committee. He is a management accountant and financial consultant to small businesses and ministries by profession. He is an avid bicyclist, Toastmaster, and proud uncle of 13 children.
My name is Elaine Criscione, thank you
for your consideration to serve as a Vestry member
with the Episcopal Parish of Calvary-St. George's in NYC.
My home is on Gramercy Park and along with worship since 2006,
parish life has included fun, smart people through: The Properties
Committee, Creative Arts Camp, Sunday School, "Renwick Gem"
construction (L'cole School), Calvary's Food Pantry, and a personal
favorite "Evening Rustica" which brought together 30 new Parish
members over newly minted Italian creations.
My degrees are in English, Journalism, and Marketing. I worked with
national publications for 15 years before establishing my own company,
The Best of Times in 1989; known for both large scale cultural event
management for Smithsonian and The Times, and special sections/ photography
in a variety of publications.
