St. Ann's Church for the Deaf, established in 1852 by Thomas Gallaudet, has a long and rich history. The parish moved into St. George's Church in 1978 and celebrated its 157th anniversary in 2009.
The parish been able to reach more people, and attendance has been increasing in Sunday services (in 3 languages and 2 modalities) and in its Thursday outreach group. In 2009, St. Ann's began its first Bible study group for deaf teens.
St. Ann's celebrates with Calvary-St. George's parish many times during the year (including Rector Gregory Brewer's first Eucharist at St. George's), Palm Sunday, Easter, Pentecost, and the St. Francis blessing of the animals.
Diversity is the church's strength, where warm hospitality is extended to all.
"We are deaf, hearing, hard-of-hearing, born-deaf and late-deafened individuals, fluent-signers, so-so signers, and non-signers, young and old, from different racial and ethnic backgrounds, coming together from different parts of the city and beyond as one to praise God."
- Rev. Maria Isabel Santiviago, Vicar, St. Ann's Church for the Deaf.
