Community Outreach

Our neighbors and neighborhoods are an important focus of our Christian mission. Calvary-St. George’s provides food programs, referrals, and supports older people living at home in our neighborhood. Outreach programs are run by volunteers, and are supported by generous financial contributions and gifts and donations to our Thrift Store.

Please make checks in support of these ministries payable to Calvary-St. George’s Church and mail your donations to the Parish Office, 209 E. 16th Street, New York, NY  10003 or make an online donation!

The Food Pantry is a vital and long-standing program for outreach into the broader community. Many of our neighbors find themselves short of the resources for a nourishing diet because illness, lack of proper housing, disruptions in steady and gainful employment and other circumstances. About 100 men, women and children visit our door each week for a bag of non-perishable food to help them get through a weekend when many weekday feeding programs are not available.

Food is provided each year with aid from Partnership for the Homeless and the Emergency Food Assistance Program. Calvary Food Pantry is open Wednesdays 2:30 pm- 3:30 pm at 277 Park Avenue South (Narthex of Calvary Church) (between 21st and 22nd.)

Food Pantry volunteers are needed - whether you can help once a month, twice a month, or more often, your time and service will be much appreciated! Contact Parish Anti-Hunger AmeriCorps Member at 646.723.4183, or at foodprogramsatcalstg [dot] org (subject: Food%20Pantry) .

St. George's Thrift Shop - In the Spring of 2009, Jim Holt retired as Thrift Shop Manager after 23 years of service. His presence is surely missed. Our rector’s wife, Laura Lee Brewer, has stepped in to volunteer her time and experience as Thrift Shop manager. Donations of clean seasonal clothing, jewelry, art pieces, books, furniture, household items, and small appliances would be appreciated. The shop has recently begun offering, on consignment, one-of-a-kind hats designed by Michael Calloway under the label "Vamps." Volunteers love serving at the Thrift Shop. Come join the fun! The shop is closed on Mondays. The Thrift Shop is located at 61 Gramercy Park N, NY, NY. For more information, contact Laura Lee Brewer, Manager at 646.723.4187.
